Apeiron is a text-only journal dedicated to investigating the subtle absurdities, quiet paradoxes, and peculiar ironies of conscious existence.
Written by Andy Hawthorne. An ageing relic of the internet's first generation, and therefore definitely in Jung's Afternoon of Life phase.
The Ethos
The universe is vast, mostly empty, and extraordinarily indifferent to whether you remembered to take your laundry out of the washing machine before it began to smell slightly of damp autumn leaves. Yet, we spend our brief, eighty-year blips of biological consciousness worrying intensely about doorframes, elevator buttons, and the exact speed at which time passes while waiting for toast.
This blog operates in the spirit of cosmic curiosity and existential wit. It seeks to observe human behavior with the mild detachment of an interstellar anthropologist who finds our species endearingly convoluted, yet fundamentally well-meaning.
Why Text-Only & 700 Pixels?
Modern web design has largely become an arms race of autoplaying video backgrounds, popups asking for your mother's maiden name, and floating banners begging for attention.
Apeiron rejects this clutter. The layout is intentionally restricted to roughly 700 pixels wide—the classic typographic sweet spot for human ocular tracking. Set in high-contrast serif type, there are no banner ads, no tracking scripts, and no stock photos of smiling people holding coffee cups. Just pure text and ideas.
